UC Denver hosts the American Veterans Traveling Tribute Wall: Nov. 5 and 6 This year, Veteran’s Day falls on Wednesday, November 11. To honor and observe

Veteran’s Day, the University of Colorado Denver will be hosting the American Veterans Traveling Tribute on the UCD downtown campus Thursday November 5 and Friday, November 6, 2009, at the Lawrence street Park (green area in front of the St. Cajetan’s church).

This remarkable exhibit is a smaller replica (80% of the original size) of the original Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C., and pays tribute to the men and women who served and are now serving in the United States Armed Forces. The purpose of this “Traveling Tribute” is to pay respect and honor to those who serve our country.

WHAT IS THE AMERICAN VETERANS TRAVELING TRIBUTE (AVTT):

The American Veterans Traveling Tribute will be hosted by the University of Colorado Denver’s Office of Student Life and will be on display on UC Denver’s downtown Denver campus.

WHO WILL BE AT THE AMERICAN VETERANS TRAVELING TRIBUTE (AVTT):

The Buckley Honor Guard will kick off the opening ceremonies of the traveling tribute at noon on Thursday, November 5, 2009, followed by welcoming remarks and speakers. A full schedule of speakers will be available the week prior to the event. At noon On Friday, November 6, 2009, U.S.S. Indianapolis Survivor Paul J. Murphy speaks about his experiences of the torpedoing and sinking of the U.S.S. Indianapolis just four days after dropping off the atomic bomb on the Tinian Island. This is considered to be the worst naval disaster in U.S. history. Only 317 of the 1,196 men on board the ship survived.

WHEN IS THE AMERICAN VETERANS TRAVELING TRIBUTE (AVTT):

Thursday and Friday, November 5 and 6, 2009, all day long.

The traveling exhibit is open to the public 24 hours a day while it is on campus November 5 and 6.

Opening ceremonies are on Thursday, November 5, at noon

USS Indianapolis Survivor Paul Murphy speaks on Friday, November 6, at noon.
